Norway [May. 15th, 2008|04:26 pm]
Finally - something that is worth all the pain that I have gone through today to get to a decent song.

This has improved markedly on its first rehearsal, mainly because everything else has gone downhill quickly around it!!

She still looks like a stereotypical fat norwegian singer from years gone by but, and it is a big but, in it's own right, it is a "nice" song that has turned the heads in the pres centre along the lines of people now saying with more conviction "That's going to qualify".

I am tending to agree with them now I am seeing it in a different light.

Probably qualifying - and in the company it has in the draw, definitely qualifying

2ndly Darrell - DONT stick the files on your webspace - can you use the pics on OnEurope as we are tracking the visits

I Thank you ;)

Armenia 1 - It's all going on [May. 11th, 2006|08:10 am]

Well, it appears that the Interweb works and pictures will be forthcoming.  They are having issues currently with the stage , but  apart from that it is all looking good.  We are all in,  except Nick, and pictures will be to the ahoy!

There is, for those that like that sorta thing, BONDAGE.  Well. more 2004 bondage for FYROM, but nevertheless, still bondage! - vocally, he is not so bad for a Thursday Morning.  He is, however, having issues with in ear monitors and sound check and things , and some, if not manu, of the notes that he is hitting, he is mearly attempting.

Yes I know he is having issues, but even so, at a full soundcheck, there should still be enough for him to hit, you would think!!!

Now - This is why I come to the Eurovision.... [May. 17th, 2005|04:10 pm]
......3 songs in a row - and all of them are different but the same.

Cyprus - Now, it was rumoured that the Cypriots had come on last yesterday as their stage had not arrived - In real life - they need not have bothered.  In the UK there is a dog food entitled "Choice" - This would be an adequate description of this - a dogs breakfast.  Its lots of things going on on stage.  It's trying to be Romania - with a man and a woman banging oil drums, it's trying to be Ruslana, by lifted the queen up, it's trying to be Greek - by attempting to be good - and failing to be any of them  It's "choreography-heavy" and by that I mean that there is lots of thrusting and dancing and stage props and mirrors ( WHY!!) - It is just everything you would expect from a typical Cypriot Entry.  Now I know I am going to get 400 mails from Cyprus saying the usual things " You hate our country" - " you keep writing shits" etc..etc...  However, I have nothing against the country and never profess to be "professional" - so please - dont bother - otherwise you will be named and shamed!! - If you, like me, have the guts to say who you are.

Spain - Oh dear god no.  This, to, is bad beyond belief.  It is ear splittingly badly sung, if that is the word you can use.  It has no redeeming features and if it wins I will never go to a Eurovision ever again ( This is negotiable however).  Franko says that they look like 3 women that have come from a Brothel, and not paying customers!! - Its just too..... Spanish, really.  OT didnt work, The National Final this time, didn't work... TVE need to do something and it is a bloody good job they can not get relegated.

Serbia and Montenegro.  Now emminent Irish and UK journalists seated with us in the royal box think that this song is excellent.  The choreography, however, is a mix of Hitler Jugend and Tito and Stalin all in one!! - Its lots of marching and symbolic drumming and marching and it is everything you would have expected on USSRTV or"propaganda of a certain age."  (PLEASE NOTE : I am *not* likening any of those countries to anything bad - it is purely an observation of styles).  The song itself is, also, out of context in this contest.  I have heard the phrase "top 5" , the question that would have to be asked is whether the voters of Europe will want to vote for a song that , in choreography and beat, harks back to an older age that the contest has usually forgotten or neglected.  I think the answer will be "niet".

Sweden - After 3 piles of shite of different colours - Franko would prefer Gulseren than this - however, again, he is Deluded!   Martin prances around and does loads of stuff and is looking good - however, there is something lacking on this performance I think.... In any other year this would give a typical Swedish result - not this year however - Mid to Low table.

Lithuania..... 2nd time [May. 14th, 2005|01:09 pm]
Well , It does appear to be growing on us - in the same way that a fungus grows on a Tree.  The song itself is nice - but the choreography leaves a lot to be desired - The Israeli sideways strut has been employed in a cynical attempt to gain votes - along with the " Lets cram up on one part of the stage"- I wonder if IBA have been notified.   It does come across as soft rock meets lift lobby music and the backing singers try to be a diet version of Kiss or Whitesnake... It just doesn't have the kick to do anything other than to be in that lift Lobby.  LRT must learn that in order to qualify the songs have to be memorable, and not just OK.

Croatia [May. 13th, 2005|04:05 pm]
It's ok - not very memorable however, and as such may not get a hatful of votes.

Portugal - RTP and total Lies [May. 12th, 2005|11:52 am]
Well I managed to run between the press centre and the Portuguese reherasal.  Good job too - because I, dear viewer, got accosted by RTP and asked to do an interview.  Bearing in mind that I had did not see the preview, and only saw their rehearsal once, I did what any reputable journalist would do with  a national broadcaster would do - Tell them what they wanted to hear.  " the song is good, many journalists think it will not qualify, but on that performance, it should do well".  To the derision of messers Delaney and Franko who laffed all the way through.

The song itself is, well, different.  It starts with a back-flipping woman, and that, unfortunately, is the highlight of it.  Their voices are not matched for the song or the performance, it has lots of choreography, but beyond that, despite what I told RTP, not much of a hope unfortunately.
